MEISSEN
The Meissen Porcelain Manufactory was founded at Albrechtsburg in 1710. Meissen set standard for all manufactories that followed in the field of ceramics.
Meissen Porcelain was produced for the court of the king and for the market. The first products were offered for sale at Leipzig Fair at Easter 1710, the first white porcelain followed in 1713.
Augustus the Strong had Meissen Porcelain produced to suit his own taste and ideas.
The crossed swords are one of the oldes trademarks in the world. They have been used to identify Meissen Porcelain since 1722.
MEISSEN CATHEDRAL
It dominates the skyline of this thousand-year-old city by the river Elbe. Work on the gothic cathedral began in 1250 and was completed in 1400.
ALBRECHTSBURG
The late gothic building is today a museum with impressive architecture. There are also exhibitions on Meissen porcelain and medieval Saxon sculpture.
